You can play with the Phpns codebase by cloning our hg repository:
$ hg clone http://bitbucket.org/alecwh/phpns/ (you can fork it here)

I have recently began development on patch 3 for phpns, and I hope I'll have plenty of time to work on it this summer. As a reminder, please report all bugs you find with the system. Any bugs that are submitted reasonably soon will be fixed for this upcoming patch.
